International Astronomy Day 2008 is Saturday May 10th. This year, International Astronomy Day will coincide with a GTA wide event promoting the importance of Science to society. There will be a massive science and technology expo consisting of multiple science and discovery related events, demonstrations and hands-on experiences. By demystifying science, we can begin to engage and interest people in a way that will lead to greater knowledge and study in science and technology.
The event will include InvenTours at a large number of research labs in the GTA with hands-on demonstrations, a Cafe Scientifique series for lectures and discussions amongst youth and young adults, and also Malls of Science which will deliver hands-on activities in shopping malls and libraries.

Amongst other participating departments, the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics' rooftop observatory and outdoor observation deck will be open for tours,demonstrations of astronomical instruments, astronomy exhibits, short talks, kids' activities, and viewing through the telescopes. The event occurs regardless of the weather, however the telescope viewing will be cancelled in the case of inclement weather.
