Outreach

I'm very passionate about outreach activities, getting the public excited about the universe and all we are trying to figure out in the universe. Particularly, I'm interested in reaching young students in high schools to get them interested in pursuing Astronomy, or science in general as a career. Below are a few outreach activities I'm currently involved in.

West African International Summer School for Young Astronomers (WAISSYA)

The West African International Summer School for Young Astronomers, WAISSYA is a week long summer school targeted at science undergratuate and post graduate students. This school aims to introduce undergaduate students to the basics of astronomy using the inquiry method, with a lot of hands on activities and solidify research methods and computing methods for the post graduate students. I have been an instructor at this school in the 2017 and 2019 edition in Accra, Ghana and Abuja, Nigeria respectively. To learn more about the school, click here .

Astrotours

Astrotours is a monthly outreach program organized by the graduate students in the Astronomy department, (GASA). It generally involves a one hour talk by a graduate student, followed by night sky observations, planetarium shows and other demos including the oculus rift, the world wide telescope. Astrotours is purely on a volunteer basis and I've helped with showcasing the meteorite collection, the 3D printed telescopes, the oculus rift and the world wide telecsope. Leadership By Design (LBD)

I've been nominated as a mentor in this program to inspire and motivate high school students in grades 10 - 12. To learn more about the Leadership By Design program, click here.

Astronomy on Tap

Astronomy on Tap is a quarterly outreach event targeted at the public. It is organized by the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics, (DAA). I am mostly a roaming astronomer at these events talking to the public about my research and answering any astronomy questions they may have. To learn more about Astronomy on Tap, click here.
