Canada has the highest post-secondary participation rate among OECD countries, and yet one of the lowest innovation rates. Why? I will offer an irreverent critique of “modern” universities and provide a description of a provocative alternative in Canada’s first independent, not-for-profit secular institution, Quest University Canada. I will describe the difference between teaching at Columbia University and teaching at Quest, both in student and faculty attitudes and in some specific techniques used in classrooms that are neither traditional nor “flipped”, but blown up and redesigned. Ample time for discussion and egg-throwing will be allotted.
