Course Number and Title: AST251H1 S Life on Other Worlds
Course description: Scholarly discussion of the probability that there are planets with life elsewhere in the universe, from the perspective of current ideas concerning the origin and evolution of the universe, the solar system and life Search techniques and possibilities for interstellar travel and space colonies are discussed.

Sessional dates: July 1, 2015 – August 31, 2015 for S courses
Salary: Sessional Lecturer I rate of pay will be $7,125 (inclusive of vacation pay), Sessional Lecturer I long term rate of pay will be $7,260 (inclusive of vacation pay), for a Half (F/S) course. The Sessional Lecturer II rate of pay will be $7,575 (inclusive of vacation pay) for a Half (F/S) course. The Sessional Lecturer III rate of pay will be $7,925 (inclusive of vacation pay) for a Half (F/S) course.
Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
Qualifications: PhD or equivalent training in Astronomy, with experience in teaching university courses in astronomy required; teaching excellence, strong academic record, and mastery of subject area; previous experience in teaching a similar course is highly desirable.
Description of duties: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, test and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours; supervising TAs assigned to course.
