York University Observatory Public Viewing Nights  
(Wednesday nights, 9 pm - 11 pm)

"The Observatory welcomes public interest and highly promotes the field of Astronomy to those who are interested. Our Public Viewing Program runs all year round and is highly popular with the local and visiting communities. On Public Viewing Nights, visitors will be able to observe various selected celestial objects in the presence of friendly staff in addition to engaging in various on-hand presentations. The observatory is open regardless of weather conditions, even though viewing through the telescope is limited to clear skies! If it's cloudy, drop in for a slide show, a planetarium show, and a tour featuring both of our telescopes."

The Observatory is fully accessible.

All public viewing events will be held in the York University Observatory, which is attached to the Petrie Science building and possesses its own entrance (at the base of the building).York University is located between Keele St. and Jane St. North of Finch. International Astronomy Week Activities

Ontario Science Centre:
"Celebrate International Astronomy Week at the Ontario Science Centre from May 5 to 11. From viewing sunspots, making craters from kitchen supplies and discovering the distances to the stars – the Science Centre will be jam-packed with ways to explore the Universe." University of Toronto, Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics Open House

The Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics' rooftop observatory and outdoor observation deck will be open on the evening of May 10th for tours, demonstrations of astronomical instruments, astronomy exhibits, short talks, kids activities, and if it is clear, viewing through the telescopes.  The event occurs regardless of the weather, with only the actual telescope viewing being cancelled in the case of inclement weather.

York University Observatory Lunar Eclipse Viewing

Mississauga Astronomical Society Public Lecture and Observing

The Mississauga Astronomical Society will be holding a public lecture at the Mississauga Central Library on Thursday, May 15 at 7:30 pm. The subject will be "Observing the evening's Total Lunar Eclipse". Afterwards, there will be public observing outside the library of the planets Jupiter and Saturn and then, of the Total Lunar Eclipse which takes place between 10:00 pm and 1:00 am.  Visitors are encouraged to bring binoculars, a flashlight and a clipboard.
